Dental Sealants

Sealants are especially effective as part of a child’s total preventive dental care. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings which are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars (back teeth). Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs in these surfaces. Sealants cover the chewing surfaces to preserve healthy tooth structure. One sealant application can last for as long as 5 to 10 years. Sealants should be checked regularly, and reapplied if they are no longer in place.

Sealants are also a preventative measure that Dr. Sapian can take to avoid infection of the tooth’s surface. This tooth-colored coating is placed on the most vulnerable areas of the natural tooth, or on top of a pre-existing filling. By sealing out infection, Dr. Sapian helps patients avoid more costly or invasive procedures in the future.
